Founding Backend Engineer | Staff / Principal Level

We’ve partnered with a newly formed, heavily backed stealth venture based in Sydney. Founded by proven leaders who have previously scaled a well known business to millions of  global users and billions in revenue, they are currently in stealth and building their core infrastructure.

Their mission is to democratise elite revenue & monetisation infrastructure and intelligence, so that all companies can achieve global maxima revenue growth results, by  shipping monetisation changes 10x faster, at 1/10th of the effort it takes today.  

The Opportunity:
This is a true 0-to-1 build. There is no legacy code, no Jira boards, and no playbooks. You will be handed a blank slate and the absolute autonomy to dictate the architectural stack. We are looking for true founders-at-heart.

You must be capable of designing a system built for extreme scale, but you must possess the scrappy pragmatism to write the “throwaway” MVP code needed to test our earliest hypotheses.

The “Builder” Requirement:
The founding CTO is looking for technical peers. During the interview loop, you will be asked to whiteboard the most complex architectural bottleneck you have personally solved…We need architects who are hands on and love to build.

Tech Stack:
The backend is built for extreme scale, security, and low latency. You’ll be joining a JVM/Java-first (given our engineering pedigree). 

As a founding engineer, you will co-own the architecture, including the foundational technology choices: languages, service boundaries, data model, infrastructure approach!

The architecture is engineered around high-throughput, distributed event-driven pipelines (Kafka), robust multi-tenant database isolation models, and high-concurrency metering APIs designed to process token-level telemetry in real-time.

Highly Desirable Project Experience:

0-to-1 Multi-Tenancy Architecture: Built multi-tenant SaaS platforms from the ground up, including designing robust tenant isolation models that scale from startups to enterprise.
Proven Scale-up Track Record: Scaled API gateways and core systems from thousands to millions of active users and daily requests without a rewrite, with a demonstrated ability to re-architect services to slash latency and infrastructure costs by a meaningful order of magnitude.
High-Integrity Transactional Architectures: Built core transactional engines or ledger-based systems from scratch where strict database consistency, absolute data integrity, and zero-error calculations are non-negotiable.
